Hiking can have a multitude of benefits: Here are some that I find beneficial
There are so many beneficial factors to hiking and being out in nature. These beneficial factors are both, physical and mental. This allows you to move your body and essentially work out by walking and not even knowing it. Which is the best feeling ever, who actually likes working out or going to the gym? Let’s start by looking at the physical benefits of hiking. According to Atchison (registered dietician), “This lowers blood pressure, cholesterol levels, reduces heart disease, can help maintain healthy weight, lower body fat, improve bone density, increase in flexibility, and coordination” (Healthy Families, 2019). These are physical benefits of just walking on a hike and enjoying nature. This is especially beneficial due to the time frame we are in.
Right now, we are facing COVID-19. This disease has changed our mental state horribly. This is due to the disruption of our daily lives. It has totally changed the way we go about our day on a daily basis. So, I think now more than ever it is important to get out and enjoy nature, for our own mentality. According to Atchison, “Hiking can lower stress levels, improve mood, enhance mental wellbeing, enhance relationships with friends, and family, and have an overall better quality of life” (Healthy Families, 2019). I think everyone could use this during COVID-19. The stress we are going through as a nation is hard and is definitely taking a toll. I think people who are not essential, should definitely take this opportunity to enjoy life and nature.
Stay Safe and Have Fun!
